Moonlet — End-User License Agreement

Last updated: 2026-08-04

By downloading, installing, or using Moonlet, you accept this Agreement. If you do not agree to these terms, do not download, install, or use the Software. This Agreement, the third-party notices in THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES.md, and the model terms summarized in NOTICE are included inside the application bundle.

1. License grant

Moonlet ("the Software") is provided to you free of charge. Subject to this Agreement, you are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Software on devices you own or control.

2. Ownership

The Software is licensed, not sold. All rights, title, and interest in the Software (excluding third-party components and downloaded model weights, which are governed by their own terms) remain with the author.

3. Third-party components and AI models

4. AI-generated output

The Software uses AI models to generate code and text ("Output"). Output is provided on an "as is" basis. The author does not own your Output and makes no representation or warranty that Output is correct, secure, functional, or free of third-party rights (including copyright). You are solely responsible for reviewing, testing, and validating any Output before using or distributing it, and for ensuring your use of Output complies with all applicable laws and third-party rights.

5. What the Software does to your files, and your data

File changes and commands. Moonlet is an agent, not just a code generator. At the model's direction it creates, edits, and deletes files inside the folder you open, and runs shell commands on your machine. It does this as part of normal operation. Point it at work you can recover — version control or backups — and review its changes, the same as you would a pull request from anyone else.

Your data stays on your machine. Moonlet runs its models locally. There is no sign-in, no user account, and no telemetry or analytics of any kind: your code, prompts, files, and conversations are never transmitted to the author or to anyone else. The Software makes only two kinds of outbound network connection:

6. Disclaimer of warranty

THE SOFTWARE AND OUTPUT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. THE AUTHOR DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.

7. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL THE AUTHOR BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SOFTWARE OR OUTPUT, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. THE AUTHOR'S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY UNDER THIS AGREEMENT WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE (WHICH FOR A FREE LICENSE IS ZERO) OR CAD $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain liabilities; in those jurisdictions the author's liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Software to violate any law or the rights of others. Some of the models Moonlet can download carry their own acceptable-use terms set by the model's publisher; those apply to your use of that model, and NOTICE lists the current terms for each model in the catalogue.

9. Termination

This license terminates automatically if you breach it, and you may stop using the Software at any time. Sections 2 and 4–8 survive termination.

10. Governing law

This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
